The Xinping Tunnel on the China-Laos Railway is located in Xinping County, Yuxi City, Yunnan Province, where the towering Ailao Mountains stretch across the landscape. Carved deeply by the flowing Yuanjiang River and Amu River, this area is characterized by intertwined mountains and rivers, with numerous cliffs and sheer rock faces, posing significant challenges to the routine maintenance work of the Yuxi Bridge Railway Inspection Work Area in the Pu'er Infrastructure Section. Since the start of the flood season, the work area has increased the frequency of inspections, conducting special checks around the tunnel whenever rainfall occurs to ensure the safe passage of trains.
Lai Changfu, carrying a large sledgehammer on his shoulder, looks ahead at the team climbing carefully up the 375 steps embedded along the mountain slope. Young workers, each holding onto iron railings, cautiously ascend; their yellow work uniforms stand out vividly against the lush green vegetation. Their mission is to perform the monthly inspection of newly installed passive protection nets, drainage ditches, and other engineering facilities at the entrance of the Xinping Tunnel on the China-Laos Railway.
In the distance, the Fuxing EMU train races through the mountains and fields. Along the extension of the "Steel Silk Road," this group of young inspectors, with an average age of 26, passionately devotes their youth and silently safeguards the safe and smooth operation of the railway.
